First year students of Animation department who have previous experience with drawing the human figure on other schools/universities and Erasmus students who come to study in a spring semester, need to apply with a portfolio and motivation/informational letter that shows previous experience or knowledge with life drawing similar or equal to ANFIG101.
Through lectures and guidance, the goal is to train observational capability, which will be incorporated within animation education. The course will provide an intermediate level in understanding visual language and creative processes with drawing tools. After passed “Figure drawing 1” the beginner level of drawing, this course will provide in-depth knowledge of proportions, anatomy, movement and composition.
In accordance with the national qualification framework, the student will have achieved the following learning outcomes after completing the course:
Students will
- have knowledge on how to draw a human body in right proportions
- have intermediate knowledge of movement, balance and composition
- have intermediate knowledge and understanding of the body structure and muscles
- have learned how to differentiate proportional features between a man and a woman
- have knowledge of linear construction
- have intermediate knowledge of using a new medium's possibilities for communication
Students will
- have obtained practical skills through drawing a real model (“Learning by Doing”)
- have an in-depth skill and knowledge about how to draw and how to express themselves through drawing
- have started to understand how anatomy visually influences body, movement and information seen on the surface
- on the basis of their intermediate level of drawing skills, be able to translate and interpret experiences visually and emotionally
- be able to incorparate in animation their fundamental knowledge about drawing
- have developed their ability for practical problem solving
Students will
- have improved their drawing abilities that will help to incorporate acquired knowledge in animation, other artistic studies and work.
Mentor will guide each student theoretically and individually through different tasks by explaining in details bones, muscle groups, their function, and simplification of those two. The subject is organized as theory part and practical exercises by drawing a life model. This course will extend on previous course (Figure drawing 1), by extending the knowledge of linear construction to linear drawing. On “Figure drawing 2” main task is linear drawing,
which gives students understanding and possibility of drawing as the basis of artistic expression. It develops creativity through research of line character through contour line, texture line and the final use of the grid line in the context of preparations for the tonal modulation.
Students will also have explanations on various drawing technique possibilities. Also, they will have short lectures about human perception (how we see, how we look and how were response to the world that surround us. On the end of the classes, students will show their knowledge by explaining their own, or fellow student’s work, where is tested their analytical thinking. Additionally, students will have small, short home works, which will enhance their drawing abilities and strengthen their knowledge in fulfilling demanding tasks. Lectures will be held on Norwegian, and English for foreign students. Classes will be always held two times per week in a form of a block hour of 45-minute x 2, during the whole semester.
Students are obligated to attend 80% of classes to pass the subject.
