Students in Volda can look forward to lots of happenings in 2024. Below is a glimpse of some of the many fun and social events taking place. 

International day - 7 February

Join us for the VUC International Day 2024 on Wednesday February 7th! This day will be full of colourful stands, exotic food, international guests, music & dance and interesting talks. The event is open for everyone and takes place on the VUC campus.

VEKA 10 – 24 February

VEKA means "the Student Week" is a student festival held in Volda every year. In recent years it has grown to last two weeks and includes concerts, stand-up shows, the Student Revue and lots of other fun events. The Student House Rokken hosts many concerts and the club concept Kløbb Ka2. Famous Norwegian artists such as Ylvis, Highasakite, and Maria Mena has headlined Veka in the past.

X2 Festival 11 – 13 April

During the X2 Festival you can participate in, or just watch, a variety of extreme sports and listen to interesting talks from inspiring guest speakers. Or you can just shake it on the dance floor and enjoy concerts from up and coming artists. Snowboard, skiing in the Sunnmøre Alps, aerial sports, longboard, skateboard, surfing, white water kajaking, yoga and more acitvities will be on the programme. 

DOKFILM (the Norwegian Documentary Film Festival) -  May

DOKFILM, the Norwegian Documentary Film Festival, has been held since 1997 and is Norway's oldest and largest festival for documentary films. The festival attracts filmmakers from Norway and abroad. During the festival, film makers, students and the general audience join together to watch great documentaries and attend a varied programme of parties and events. This is a festival you definately don't want to miss out on.

Bygdepride, in May

Bygdepride was the first pride celebration outside the major cities when it was held for the first time in 2018. The large parade and turnout made National news and was the start of a fairtale success which still continues in 2024. Bygdepride (town pride) will be held sometime in May. The last years the event has been made into a week of celebrations, concerts and events, in addition to the main pride parade. 

17 May (Norweigan National Day) 

17 May is the Norwegian National Day (Constitution Day). The day is celebrated all over Norway with parades, traditional food, music and costumes. On 17 May there is a school parade in the morning, followed by a people's parade in the afternoon. VUC has its own banner in the afternoon parade and students are encouraged to take part in the parade. For students, the national day is also a day of partying, often starting with a traditional Champaigne Breakfast. But make sure to take it easy so that you get to enjoy the full day of activities.

First aid in the exam period, May

VUC will follow the success of earlier years in providing a First aid programme for the exam period in May. This includes useful short courses on how to handle exam anxiety, academic writing tips, reference guides, and free supper in the cafeteria. The idea of the programme is to reduce stress and help students through the exam period. 

Fadderveka - the Buddy Week in August 

The Buddy Week is at the start of the new academic year in August. This is a week full of events and activities. Each new student is assigned to a Buddy Group and a Buddy that help them integrate in the university life and settle in her ein Volda. The Buddies will do their utmost to help students get a great start to their stay in Volda and to make sure everyone gets to know other students and the town of Volda. During the Buddy Week, many friendships are created, some that lasts for a lifetime.

Forskingsdagane (Research Days) in September

Forskingsdagane, the Research Days, is a national event at Norwegian universities and colleges. It usually takes place in September and the aim is to showcase research at the universities to a wider audience. The audience will get to hear more about recent research at VUC and see the wide area covered by research done at our college. The Research Days usually has an overarching theme, but will still allow for many different academic disciplines to present.

Animation Volda in September/October

Animation Volda is an annual festival for Animation Films and it is organised by the students at the Animation Department at VUC. During 4 intense days, participants, film makers and the audience will explore the field of animation through lectures, workshops, movie screenings, and parties. Animation Volda attracts international celebrities within animated films and is a highlight of the year for film geeks.

In addition to the above-mentioned festivals and events, there are so many things going on in Volda. Pangaia the international hub on campus organises lots of events including International Nights at the Student House Rokken. During the International Nights students get to showcase their countries with traditional food, culture and interesting facts. All the Student Organisations at VUC are also a big part of the social life for students.

For those who love to test their useful and not so useful knowledeg, there is a quiz every Wednesday at the Student House Rokken. There is also regularly held quizes at the cafe/pub Tredet. Tredet also hosts concerts, stand-up and other cultural events. 

The fine resaurant Brør mat og bryggeri, is a pearl among eateries in Volda and also hold events such as wine tasting. 

E-sport og sporting events

Volda is also well-known for its many sports teamts and you are never far away from a match worth watching. KFUM Volda is the local volleayball club, and the womens team plays in the premier division in Norway. Similarly Volda handball has a womens team in the first division (level 2) of the Norwegian handball league. Both these teams play their home games in the brand new Volda Campus Sparebank1 Arena located on the VUC campus. Volda has a football (soccer) team for men playing in the 3. division and the womens team in the 2. division.

If you are interested in E-sport, then Volda E-sport  is a club for everyon that regularly hold tournaments and events, in addition to the regular practice sessions. Recently there has been tournaments held in the new media building at VUC where students in the BA Media Production made a liveshow of the E-sport tournament
