Om emnet

The course is designed specifically for international students and provides an introduction to Norwegian physical education, sport traditions and outdoor life (friluftsliv). The course is organized into both practical and theoretical subjects.  The student is not expected to have any special skills or previous knowledge regarding the practical subjects. Theory The theoretical part of the course will provide the student with an introduction to the organization, structure and content of the Norwegian school system. It will give an introduction to physical education in particular, but also a general introduction to voluntary sport.The focus areas will be the tradition and understanding of the Norwegian outdoor life (friluftsliv) and physical education / -activities for disabled persons in Norway. Practical activities The course includes different aspects of Norwegian physical education, sports and outdoor life (friluftsliv) with a focus on winter and spring time.Through a number of activities in different locations, indoor and outdoor, the students will learn about typical Norwegian activities adjusted to a suitable level. These are activities based on our culture in play and games, achievements and outdoor activities, outdoor life (friluftsliv), and different activities for disabled persons, especially in the wintertime.CONTENT Theory   Sport The Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of  Sports (NIF) -organization and content. Physical education Physical education in Norwegian schools and Norwegian education; content, organization, working methods and adapted education ("Spenningskurset»). Outdoor life (friluftsliv) What is outdoor life (friluftsliv) in Norway?Outdoor life (friluftsliv) in schools.Outdoor life (friluftsliv) as a leisure activity and “All man's right”. Health Health is a theme in all three theory courses. Practical   Ski Beginner training; flat ground and downhill skiing. Self-training. Outdoor life (friluftsliv) Three daytrips on skis in the surroundings of Volda. One day dry-land trip.Coastal outdoor life (friluftsliv) at Yksnøya. Games Norwegian traditional games and ballgames. Student presentation of games from the students’ home country.Observation of recess activities. Swimming and life saving Swimming with emphasis on life saving and self-training in relation to this. Orienteering Introduction to the use of map and compass.Practical orienteering in the local environment. Orienteering in nature and in connection with outdoor life (friluftsliv). Dance Norwegian and international folk dances.Student presentation of dances from their home country. Wintercourse for disabled persons («Spenningskurset») The winter course takes place in Bjorli. Knowledge The student shall have acquired knowledge of: How the Norwegian school system and voluntary sport is organized. The aim, content and organization of physical education in Norway. The didactics of physical education in Norway. Traditional, norwegian outdoor life (friluftsliv). The differences and similarities between physical education in Norway and in their own home country. SkillsThe student will be able to: Present different kind of activities that are typical for the norwegian physical education. Travel and stay overnight in different  natural environments – winter and spring.

Praktisk organisering og arbeidsmåtar

The instruction language is english and teaching is offered in the form of plenary sessions and groups, as well as on an individual basis. Relevant methods of teaching and types of instruction and practice will be used. For all practical activities, regulations governing studies and examination at Volda University College §7,3, concerning attendance and participation in teaching applies.
