MMP308 Media Producing
Admission will be based on study programs and a letter of motivation (less than one page A4) stating your background and reason for applying. Applications are to be handed to the VUC Student Support Office (Studentsørvis) by email: studentsorvis@hivolda.no by the given deadline (November 20, 2017). Please mark the application MMP308. A primary admission list will be made within two weeks after the first application deadline.
The Media Producers of the future will be bold, daring and experimental. Unafraid to push
boundaries and create the new frontiers of the media industry. This is our ethos.
On this course, students will work in depth on the craft of bringing a production to reality through
the skillsets of a producer. The course is a blended learning course of online modules
explaining and illustrating the role of a producer in context and practical workshops to practice
producing skills such as development packaging, budgeting and scheduling, financing,
international copyright & clearance, distribution, media futures and industry sectors and media
leadership and management. Each student brings their own project to the course to work on
and practice the above techniques accordingly.
The producing skills will cover areas suitable for long and short form content creators working in
different formats.
In accordance with the National Qualifications Framework the student will achieve the following learning outcomes after completing the course:
Has advanced knowledge of budgeting, scheduling and financing for media production.
Has thorough knowledge of distribution techniques and production methods in the field
Can apply producing knowledge across multiple genres and formats in media practice
Can analyse and deconstruct media productions on the basis of history, theory and practice in the field of producing
Can plan and prepare productions across multiple genres and formats in media practice
Can prepare and develop work for media production independently
Can use relevant methods and practices to inform independent media production
Can analyse and critically evaluate various sources of information to structure and formulate their decision making process and validate their choices.
Can apply knowledge and skills in new areas to carry out advanced assignments and projects
Can communicate extensively about skills and knowledge in producing and utilise appropriate terminology in correct contexts
Can contribute to new thinking and innovative processes within media producing.
The course is a blended learning course of online modules explaining and illustrating the role of
a producer in context and practical workshops to practice producing skills. The students will
work on their own projects and work requirements between workshops. Guidance will be given
individually and in groups based on the Pixar “BrainTrust” model.
The student shall present a production package, a test sequence, and a pilot or teaser from a chosen project.
Examination results are executed in accordance with the Directive for Admission, Studies and Examination at Volda University College, § 5-11.
