Student boat house: a gem by the lake
The sun was shining and the mood was excellent, as the the former leader of the Student Parliament, Ammy Bolme, had the honor of cutting the cord and opening the brand new boathouse at lake Rotevatnet.
The boathouse is the latest edition in the SiVolda student welfare project and offer students the chance to rent boats, canoes and stand-up paddle boards free of charge. The opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Volda, Sølvi Dimmen, VUC rector Odd Helge Mjellem Tonheim, and the Director of SiVolda, Rune Aasen. After a few speeches and congratulations, it was time for the students to test the new equipment in the fine weather.

The director of SiVolda is hoping that the boathouse will be actively used by the students and believe that it will be a valuable addition to the already active student community in Volda.

In his speech, Rector Odd Helge Mjellem applauded the work that SiVolda is doing to create fantastic welfare offers for the students in Volda.
- SiVolda is an important part of the unique study environment in the Volda. These welfare opportunities and benefits are extremely important for students, and also help to create good surroundings for their studies, explained the rector.
Locally produced boat house
SiVolda director Rune Aasen emphasised that the wood used to build the boathouse were as locally produced as possible. The timber was cut and adapted at the woodwork on the other side of lake Rotevatnet and it has been a goal all along to use local resources and local craftsmen.
- The carpenter used in this project, Roal Christofffersen, is building in the "old style". So if you look carefully at the woodwork inside the boathouse, you will see that there are wooden nails instead of screws and steel nails. It is craftsmanship of at an extremely high quality.
