ANT264 Animasjonsteori 4: Tverrfagligheit
Admission for exchange students is based exclusively on portfolio assessment. All exchange students must submit a link to their online portfolio, together with the application documents.
This course provides students with the opportunity to expand their understanding of the field of animation and its connections with other disciplines. Through lectures, activities and seminars, students will be introduced to perspectives outside the field of animation studies, and discuss the future of animation and related media arts. Emphasizing the increasing blurriness of the borders between animation and related fields, the course contextualizes animation as an ever-expanding notion, practice, and art. The students will become familiar with how animation is used outside the film and entertainment sector - e.g. in contemporary art, science, and education, and relate this to their own practice.
In accordance with the National Qualifications Framework the student will have following learning outcome after completing the course:
The students will have knowledge of
- perspectives outside of conventional animation practices
- animation as an interdisciplinary practice and concept
- various research approaches relevant for studying animation as an interdisciplinary and expanding field
The students will be able to
- contextualizing animation within an expanding field of practice and research
- problematizing traditional disciplinary boundaries
- their ability to recognize and reflect on contemporary and future directions of the animated media arts
The students will
- have awareness and knowledge of the interdisciplinary and open-ended potential of the role of an animator
- be able to recognize the prospects and potentials of the cross-pollination between animation and other fields
The course is organized through weekly lectures/seminars/activities. Aside from the possibility of including some practical elements in this course, it also runs parallel to the practical module ANI264, and therefore, can be used to inform and reflect on the practical production in that module. Students will work on different assignments throughout this course, which should be delivered in a final portfolio exam including
- a creative artifact in one of the following forms:
- Video (10-30 seconds)
- Images (2-10 images)
- Web page/blog (50-500 words)
- a written report (300-1000 words)
Deliver an evaluation of the course. This evaluation will be conducted anonymously.
Grading will be done in accordance with the Regulations governing admission, studies and examinations at Volda University College.
