«THE CHRISTMAS OF SOLAND AND LUDVIG»

«The Christmas of Soland and Ludvig» received the Amanda for the best children’s film at the award ceremony in Haugesund. The film was also nominated in the categories for best scenography/production design, the best Norwegian film of the year and the people’s choice award. The film is directed by former animation student at VUC, Rasmus Sivertsen.

«The Christmas of Soland and Ludvig» is the largest puppet animation production in Norway for almost 40 years. The challenges faced were many.

“Puppet films are more demanding than for example computerized animation. We were constantly faced with challenges of the sort ‘The main character has broken a leg’ or ‘we are not getting the rocket sled to go fast enough’” said Sivertsen in an earlier interview with the college.

“The Christmas of Soland and Ludvig” was the most seen movie in Norway in 2013. Some 600 000 bought tickets during the opening 4 weeks. The film also received a lot of press coverage.
“When you have worked with a film for three years, it is of course particularly satisfying to receive positive critique. The response we have had has really been overwhelming and more than we expected.

«LIGHT FLY, FLY HIGH»

«Light Fly, Fly High» received the Amanda for best documentary  in Haugesund. It also won the award for best feature length documentary at the Dokfilm Festival in Volda earlier this year. The film is directed and produced by former students of the master degree in Documentary and Journalism at VUC, Susann Østigaard and Beathe Hofseth.

About the film:

«Light Fly, Fly High» is about the Indian boxer Thulasi. As a young and casteless woman, her life is in many ways predetermined. She is expected to marry when the family decides that the time is right, and to accept her position at the bottom of the caste system. But Thulasi dreams of a different life. She wants to support herself and enters the boxing ring to literally fight her way to independence.

The film is a David and Goliat story. Over a period of three years the film follows the young girl’s resilient fight against corruption, discrimination and sexual oppression. The challenges are many, but Thulasi refuses to give up. She calls herself a «One Woman Army» and fights with everything she’s got in order to live life on her own premises!
