The buddy week in Volda promises a lot of fun and a warm welcome
One and a half week filled with fun events for all tastes, mood-creating concerts and caring buddies who open the door to the Volda family - new students have a lot to look forward to during the buddy week.
– All new students should feel safe when they come here and always be able to ask if they have any questions. It should be safe, good, comfortable - and fun - to be in Volda. Our buddies will help to ensure that, says Matilde Tafjord Rødhammer.
She is the leader of the buddy week in Volda, and has spent the last six months well to plan a first week - which admittedly will be one and a half - in the academic year 2022/23 where new Volda students will experience the close and good student environment that Volda is well known for.
Rebus race, click disco and stand up
The academic year starts with an official celebration on Tuesday 16 August at 11.00 at Volda University College. Shortly afterwards, the new students get to meet their buddies and the class they will attend. But already the day before, it is ready for pizza night in an informal environment where new students can get to know each other.
After the opening, things go smoothly. Wednesday is it a rebus race, where the students will get to know Volda in a fun way. Posts where students are challenged a bit in a fun way. Always a hit during the buddy week. It ends at Volda Campus Sparebank 1 Arena - the new, large, beautiful sports hall located on campus. There is a national team volleyball match at 18.00 between Norway-Cyprus, where students are most welcome.
There are also several concerts at Studenthuset Rokken, where the very popular Rokken quiz will also be arranged, the same with a click disco and maybe some fun stand-up comedians will appear on stage.

Beach party, flea market and cool sports event
Saturday in the buddy week is beach the key word. The beach party at the swimming area Årneset by Rotevatnet, where there are also sand volleyball courts and nice outdoor areas, will be followed by a beach party at Rokken in the evening.
After an active beach day, it is good to relax with a movie, so the buddy week invites you to a movie night on Sunday 21st of August.
Volda is known for its rich organizational life, with everything from student sports teams to political organizations. All of these, plus some other companies, the new students get to meet under the organizational square on campus during the buddy week.
Towards the end of the one and a half week long buddy week, the traditional flea market under the auspices of the Red Cross is back. Ingenious for new students who need a chair or a bowl for their new home.
– Then we end it all with a cool innovation - Volda Olympics. It will be like a sports day in primary school with simple but fun exercises. I look forward to that, says Matilde.
"I want to be here"
She remembers well when she herself came to Volda to start studying in 2018.
– Yes, I remember the buddy week well. A lot happened and I wanted to be part of everything, but then I thought: "Do I dare?". But the buddies were on, decent and took care of us. It was so much fun, says the buddy leader.
And especially:
– There were many fun evenings at Rokken, and I got to know students from other fields of study. I pretty quickly got the feeling that "here I want to be". The buddy week was so good for me that I concluded early on that I would contribute to next year's buddy week.
– This is how I hope the new Volda students will also experience it. They will get to know what is unique about Volda. It will be like a big family with students where people care about each other and friendships are formed for the rest of their lives.
