Great success with International Nights

The Czech Slovak Night provided a main and dessert and everyone ate so much of it there were nearly no leftovers.

Pangaia organize International Nights, like the CzechoSlovak Night on October 24th, every two to three weeks throughout the semester. Approaching a group of students from the same country we ask them if they would like to organize the night with us and they are always very excited to show off their home country to the others.

The students get a budget with which they are able to prepare food, snacks and get decorations. Most International Nights include a short presentation introducing their country, culture and famous sights, and often a quiz to test our general knowledge.

International Nights are a great way to bring together students and they help, not only with making friends, but also with breaking down stereotypes. The completely different backgrounds that the students bring to Volda, are mixed together through the nice atmosphere of a relaxed evening eating, and chatting with each other.

Every group plans the event in their own way. We had a successful Belgian Fair with music, games, and dancing, as well as a great quiz and presentation during the Portuguese Night. The Czech Slovak Night provided a main and dessert and everyone ate so much of it there were nearly no leftovers.

All in all, events like these are an important part of student exchange and we are happy that so many people are choosing Volda for their semester abroad.

Pangaia is part of the International Office and we are the first meeting point that students can come to if they have questions, are feeling homesick, or just want to have lunch. We organize different events during the year that are open for International and Norwegian students alike. Our aim is to provide students with a home away from home, and we are always happy to see new faces coming by!

Our office is directly opposite the Kafeteria in BK and is open between 10:30am to 15:30pm. Students can get free tea and coffee and of course, a free chat as well.
