Mini-guide to Volda University College

Are you a new student and not sure what Volda University College (VUC) is like? Here is a brief guide on VUC.

The university you are enrolled in has long traditions. Several of the country's best teachers and most famous media professionals have graduated from VUC. Caring social workers, skilled administrators, language experts and history gurus have walked these paths before you. In 2021, there are about 4,500 students and 350 staff at VUC.

1. HISTORY: Volda University College was formed 27 years ago, through the merger of the District College and Teacher College, both located in Volda. The district college was established "only" 50 years ago, whereas the teacher training college has existed since 1895 and can trace its roots back all the way to 1861. So we've been doing this for a while!

2. THE DEPARTMENTS: VUC offers study programmes in teacher education, humanities, media studies, social studies and arts. The university college has four Faculties.

AHL: Faculty of Humanities and Teacher Education. Here you will find the Institute of Language and Literature, the Institute of Religion, Philosophy and Church Studies, the Institute of Education and the Institute of Natural Sciences.
AKF: Faculty of Arts is organized into four Departments: Drama and Theater, Design, Arts and Crafts, Sports and Outdoor life and Music. Here you will also find SEANSE, the international Center for Cultural Production.
ASH: Faculty of Social Sciences and History. Here you will find the Institute of Planning and Administration, the Institute of Social Work and the Institute of History.
AMF: Faculty of Media and Journalism. Here you will find the Institute of Journalism, Institute of PR/Communication and the Institute of Film and Animation.

3. THE CAMPUS AREA: It is not a long walk from the Kaarstad building in the west end of campus to the Aasen house in the east. This academic year VUC also opens the new media house that we are so lucky to be able to use from the start of studies in 2021! Even if the campus is rather small and compact, we have maps you can download on your mobile . Then you have no excuse to not find your way around!
