The National Day in Volda

In Volda, Norway’s National Day is celebrated with a rich and varied program for everyone the whole of May 17th.

Join the parade!

True to tradition, Volda University College (VUC) participate in the parade which starts from Volda omsorgssenter at 3.30 pm. This year, the Faculty of Media and Journalism carries the VUC banner - all students and staff are welcome to join the parade! VUC is number 15 in line, after Volda Læringssenter. 

National celebration concert

During the day, you can get the 17th of May feeling at various concerts by Volda’s choirs and bands, there will be speeches, children's games, wreath-laying at Krumsvikbautaen, church services and film at the cinema. The Symphony Orchestra at Volda University College, with conductor Elizabeth Oltedal, ends the day with a national festive concert in Volda church at 8pm. Everyone is warmly welcome to an exuberant concert of Norwegian music, and the program's main piece: Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 46, with soloist Eirik Stave. The audience can also enjoy the premiere of a completely new piece by Torgrim Skjerdal.
