«Quality is just as important as quantity in higher education, and this university college, albeit the largest higher education institution between Bergen and Trondheim, is really something special with regards to quality» - said Member of Parliament and VUC alumni Fredric Holen Bjørdal in his opening speech.

Volda is being Noticed
Bjørdal said that the academic quality and vibrant student life at the university college, in combination with the surrounding nature, make VUC stand out among other schools.
“Here you have educated our country’s best teachers for more than 150 years, produced top-notch journalists to national media year after year and offer renowned studies in animation, social science, planning and administration, New Norwegian and creative arts – just to mention a few of the college’s strong holds. The research branch of the college is also receiving more praise, so much that you have now been approved to start up a Ph.D. programme. These things I mention, are being noticed” – said Bjørdal.
Rector Per Halse welcomed guests, students and staff to another academic year at Volda University College.
More than 1000 new students
This year VUC welcomes more than 1000 new students.
«You have chosen an international college. More than 80 of our new students are international students, from some 24 different countries. This in addition to all the international students that are already here on campus. I look forward to an interesting year and I hope that we all, students, staff and the local community, will find good ways to cooperate so that we can further improve the quality of our work here” – said rector Per Halse.
Former VUC music student, Eirik Sognnes, performed at the opening ceremony.
After the opening ceremony, the Buddies gathered students for orientation meetings and activities of the Buddy Week.
