Successful International Day

International Day at VUC happens two times per year, once every semester. Its main purpose is to present the Norwegian students with the opportunity of taking one or two semesters abroad. International students on campus, special guests for the day and representatives of institutions from around the Globe put their hand together and prepare an amazing program, ended with a prized competition – 8000 NOK, for the lucky winner, used to visit one of Volda’s international partners.

The event is open for everybody, but with the main focus on the Norwegian students. From stands, to food, to entertaining moments, to auditorium presentations – everything is as international as possible.

"Is it possible to be Norwegian and Muslim?"

Special guest for this semester’s event was a renowned TV journalist, Noman Mubashir, who hosts one of the most popular shows on the national television, called “Migrapolis”.

For almost one hour, he enchanted and challenged the full auditorium with discussions about being a Norwegian citizen of a minority religion. It is a matter of actuality for the Norwegian students who travel abroad, to a different culture, educational system, religion, environment.

The program in the auditorium ended with former exchange students from Volda, who shared their precious experience and answered questions about studying outside Norway.

Cecilie Wilhelmsen, head of the International Office was really pleased with the day.

– It was like the weather. Brilliant! It was outstanding, one of the best international days ever. I am very happy.

As the program got to an end, the winner of the competition was announced. This year, an international student on campus got the prize and will visit one of the partner universities that Volda has in its portfolio.
