- Time for change
Students were welcomed with the phrase, by the ceremony host Kristian Fuglseth.
- Study period is a time for change. When you finish your study period in Volda, we, who work at the university college, wish that you are not the same person you are today. We are here to help you discover your talent and develop. (…) The only thing that stands in the way of development is yourself. Do not wait for inspiring lecturers, but do be an inspiring student, he said.

More students than ever
- Welcome to the Volda University College and at the opening of a new academic year. In total, the university college is close to 4000 registered students, more than ever before, rector Per Halse started his speech with. He also pointed out, among other things, the long and proud tradition Volda has, as a student town.

A balloon for each student
Enthusiastic students and high mood were also noticeable when the International Office released 100 balloons by surprise. All the balloons contained a piece of paper with names and e-mail to one of the new international students, and Cecilie Wilhelmsen, head of the International Office, had a clear message for the Norwegian students.
- Grab a balloon and get in touch with one of our new international students.
The Norwegian students were fast in acting and soon enough the cafeteria in Berte Kanutte was filled with loud bangs, from the 100 broken balloons.
