The animation festival is approaching, and it is time to get some insight into the details for this year's program.

The festival is a yearly event arranged by the animation students here at Volda University. This year it is dated from 21st to 24th of September and is held at samfunnshuset in Volda.

Up next, leader Vincent Malnes and deputy Majken Fedøy of Animation Volda will give us some knowledge on what to expect as of Thursday.

-Those that take part in the festival can expect to talk to the guests in person! So, if you have any questions about how it is to work in the animation industry, or want to do some networking, this is the place to be this weekend, says Fedøy eagerly.

Additionally, she can vouch for numerous of good animation movies.

This year's program:

Thursday September 21

-The first day is going to begin with a small opening ceremony, followed by screening the first set of the animated movies, says Fedøy.

Further she says that they are going to show “animated shorts”, that is animated short movies from around the world. Later that day, they are going to have a premiere of the movie Titiana, which is one of Norway's biggest animated feature movies over the previous years. They will finish of Thursday with showing animated movies that students located in Volda has made.

Friday September 22

Friday will start off with a speech from the director of the Titiania-movie, Kajsa Næss. She will talk about how it was like to work on this movie. Later that day they will show more animated movies, before a guest-lecture from Curie Lu.

-She will talk about how it is like to be a freelancer in the industry, and how she managed to get a job at among others Netflix, Fedøy reveals.

Friday will finish off with a Mario Kart tournament in the cinema hall, where exciting winnings wait for those who become top-three. This has already been tested out and approved by the above, and they jokingly tell that it is okay to buy a day-ticket just to join in on this event.

Saturday September 23

Saturday it is, amongst other events, a guest-speech from Jan-Erik Maas that is a part of the program.

- He took part in the animating of the new Pinocchio-movie that came out last year, so there will most likely be a chance to see some of the dolls he used on set. He will also talk about how it is like to work with character-animations, tells Fedøy.

The last part of Saturday will consist of watching more movies and finish off with a closing ceremony and party.

Sunday September 24

Sunday is children's day, that means free entrance for all children and families that day. Animation Volda had a workshop with the fifth graders at Øyra skule earlier, where the students made stop motion movies with Lego. These movies will be shown on Sunday, and there will also be a Mario Kart tournament for the children.

Need more volunteers

The arrangers point out that they still need more volunteers to work at the festival. They emphasize that you do not need to volunteer the whole weekend, and that it is okay if you only have time to help one of the days. Both Malnes and Fedøy volunteered at the festival last year and can tell that they did not miss out on much of the program even though they were working.

-The volunteers get free entrance the whole weekend regardless of how many days they work. If that is not enough, the volunteers also get free food and a pretty cool t-shirt, they inform.
