The library at Volda University College is so much more than books and papers – students and employees can now borrow iPads at the library for free.

Volda University College has made an investment of 60 iPads which now can be borrowed from the counter at the library. 45 of them are reserved for primary school teacher students, but the 15 left is available to all students and employees to borrow.

Like borrowing a book

– It works like borrowing a book. Just as easy, and you use the same borrowing card. The difference is that you won't find the iPads in the shelves, but ask for them in the counter, says Margrethe Munthe Vassbotn, adviser at the library.

iPads can be borrowed for a week, and you have liability for the instance of damage or loss, just like with books.

iPad can be borrowed by enquiry at the library counter between 10 am. and 2 pm. Mon - Friday. The iPads must also be delivered back at the counter and not in the boxes outside or inside the library.

Contains what the students needs

Within the national student survey Studentbarometeret where students answers many different questions about their place of study, the library at VUC has traditionally been given a high score.

Vasbotn is now delighted to provide Volda students with another offer which she hopes they like and will make use of.

– The iPads shall contain the most of the apps the students needs. The IT office is following up with updates. The iPads will be erased and reset between every lending – it will be safe to borrow these. We hope this offer is going to be a success, and an adequate and useful tool in everyday study, Vassbotn tells.

A plus for everyone

She says that the library continuously wants to develop and customize the students' needs. The new lending scheme adapts this figure of mind with bold characters.

Læringsverkstaden – The learning workshop, has previously had some iPads for borrowing. Now with raised numbers and availability as the library takes responsibility for lending.

– It's a plus for everyone. Easier accessibility is of course a good thing. We want the students benefit from us, and hopefully with this lending scheme to put another stone in that pyramide, Vassbotn says.
