Visit the library and see what they have to offer to Volda students! A place to ease up, take a coffee, learn with and from others, get help from our skilled librarians – or enjoy the solitude while you read.

The Library at Volda University College is so much more than shelves where thousands of books are stored. It’s a social arena for students – where smiles and good vibes (not loud everywhere) is combined with studies, colloquium groups and exam preparations.

– Visiting the library should be pleasurable, and we want you to feel at ease, says Mariann Schjeide, Library Manager.

A whirlwind of activity

Yes, and that is precisely what the library has accomplished. It’s warm and inviting. With plush couches, lush greenery in every nook and cranny, and kind staff who wish you a warm welcome.

And there’s light in there virtually all of the time, early in the morning and late at night, up until midnight. As a student, you have access to the library from 7:00 a.m. to midnight. It is manned for a substantial portion of the time and you can receive help at the counter; however, the rest of the time it is self-serviced, which means you must have your student card to enter.

It’s not uncommon to hear the students rave about how delightful it is to be in the library and how helpful the librarians are.

Personal learning support service

The library offers many courses on how to best search for literature or how to cite and refer to sources when completing assignments, which can be attended by entire classes.

They are frequently offering a reference sorting station in the days leading up to the exam, where students can receive one-on-one assistance with reference work. The library also provides assignment assistance, including assistance from a librarian in understanding and structuring an assignment, as well as other useful advice on academic language and style.

Borrowing a librarian is also an option, in the sense that the student has “own time” with a librarian who will assist you with whatever you need within specific parameters. In addition, the library provides learning resources including videos, sample collections, online courses, and a wealth of other resources to assist students with their writing projects.

iPads to lend

There is 60 iPads to lend at the Library. 45 of them are reserved for primary school teacher students, but the 15 left is available to all students and employees to borrow.

Study spaces for groups and reading

Students have exclusively access to the library’s seven spacious and functional group rooms. There are well over 20 group rooms available for students to book in advance across the campus.

Here, students gather to collaborate on a variety of projects, such as going over curriculum, writing assignments, debating academic issues, and so on.

There are also many workplaces in open landscapes, in silent zones, and in zones where people can talk in a lower voice.

The reading room at the library is the place to be if you are in need to concentrate as much as possible.
