Bygdepride is back

Bygdepride is Volda and Ørsta’s biggest celebration of love. Every year at the beginning of May men and women, young and old, are marching down the streets for equality of love and the right to be who you are. Volda University College (VUC) is very proud and honored to be a part of this wonderful event for the fifth year!

– For me personally there is time before and after Bygdepride, says pro rector at VUC, Odd Helge Mjellem Tonheim.

– I can see the difference, because there has been more acceptance for everyone to be who they are. Despite celebrating Bygdepride, it is still difficult for many people to come out of the closet and to tell to the loved ones that you are have non-heterosexual sexual orientation, and that is a task that we should continue working on. For Volda University College it is important to be a part of Bygdepride, because it is about showing that the university together with Bygdepride contributes to Volda, Ørsta and Søre Sunnmøre being an open and inclusive place to live, work and study, notes Mjellem Tonheim.
