– This year's festival will be extra special. The X2 festival celebrates its 10th anniversary and we have therefore introduced a number of new competitions, sports and activities on the festival program, says the excited festival director Eirik Vaage. He adds that everyone is welcome to this year's festival.

Thursday April 16,  the festival sports program opens with a surfing competition at Ervik or Flø and a skating competition in the new skatepark in Volda. This is the first time a competion like this is held at X2 and in the park.

– We are very proud to introduce four new competitions this year. In total we have 17 activities on the program, seven artists and approximately five record spinners on the various scenes. In addition, we are dedicated to mediation and inspiration and have invited seven exciting presenters to the festival, says Vaage.

Among the other new sports are XBase - a base jumping competition, multisport - a fun low threshold competition where competing teams and speed flying - where participants jump from Rotsethornet in Volda.

Focus on climate and environment

When X2 enters its anniversary year the festival will hold a greater focus on climate and environment.

– We are all active users of nature and climate has a lot to say for the festival's future, says Vaage adds that that is precisely why is particularly important to know what you can do to contribute positively to the fight against climate change.

Therefore, the festival has invited key competences that will give the festival attendees a debate and insight into how a Norwegian winter might look in 2050.

These sets for debate and discussion:

Hallstein Havåg (Conservation Director Bellona)
Arild Hermstad (Leader of Future in Our Hands)
Arnstein Vestre (Leader of Nature and Youth)
Ina Vikøren (Communications manager of Protect Our Winters Norway)

Jens Standaleidet Groven, upcoming pro-rector at Volda University College shall be chairman of the heated debate that takes place the same day as the festival opens Thursday 16 April at 20:00 in the festival tent.
