Individual education plan

The individual education plan is an agreement between you as a student and the university college. It explains which rights and obligations both you and we have, and refers to important regulations.

Your personal part of the plan shows you how to complete your study.
All students receive an individual education plan when they start their course of studies. Below you can find more information about the individual education plan and changes it is possible for you to make.

How do I get an individual education plan?

You will find the individual education plan in Studentweb. The education plan has two parts:

- A general section which explains what an education plan is, refers to important regulations and provides information on student guidance.

- An individual section with the courses of your programme of study. For some studies, the education plan is compulsory, without offering any choices. For other studies, some courses are compulsory and some are optional.

We recommend that you read the programme description of your programme of study throughly before you make any changes to your individual education plan.

The individual education plan shows the progress that is expected, and delays or changes may affect your admission to a course or specific programme of study. Cf.  Forskrift om opptak, studium og eksamen ved Høgskulen i Volda § 4-1

How do I change my individual education plan?

Go to Studentweb and read through your individual education plan every semester, before the deadline. You can change the plan in some cases:

- You can spend longer or shorter time by changing the semester for the course. Please contact the Student Service Office or the Programme Leader if you need help with this.

- You can select new courses in optional sections of the study.

- You can apply for overseas exchange, permission to leave, approval of previous education,
or cancel the study. Please contact the Student Service Office if you need help with any of these.

The individual education plan is to contain only courses that are part of the programme you are following. If you want to sit for an exam that is not included in your individual education plan, please contact the Student Service Office.

Individual education plan review

Each semester all students on programmes of 60 credits or more will be offered an individual education plan review. This may be arranged in different ways, but the conversation is often offered by the Programme Leader. The individual education plan review can be conducted in groups or individually.

In the individual education plan review you can raise questions about the course of studies or the study situation, further plans, working methods and individual adaptations. This can be, for example, how to use optional courses, study abroad, get previous education approved, etc.

In addition to the offer of individual education plan reviews related to the course of studies, the university college has a Student Adviser at the Student Service Office on the ground floor of the Berte Kanutte building.

Leave of absence

If you have good reasons, you can apply for leave of absence. You can find the regulations for leace of absence in Forskrift om studium og eksamen ved Høgskulen § 4-12
The right to maternity leave is particularly strong and is regulated by Universitets- og høgskulelova § 4-5.

To be granted leave of absence, you must apply in advance and provide the required documentation. This may be a medical certificate or the like, but it may also be a programme description / course plan for a planned course of study. We will need this if you want to apply for leave to take optional parts of the study programme in another city.

An application form for leace of absence can be found at the Student Service Office.

Recognition of previous education

Recognition / crediting of courses from other education

If you have previous qualifications, which you believe fit into your course of studies at VUC, you can apply to have this recognised as a part of the study programme here. Optional parts of the study are the easiest to gain recognition, and the programme description shows where there is an opportunity for this. You can also gain exemption from compulsory parts of the course of studies, based on the similar courses you have previously completed. It is important that the application is documented with programme descriptions or the like, so that we have a good basis on which to evaluate your application.

If you wish to apply for this, please contact the Student Service Office.

The crediting of courses in the 4-year primary school teacher education are based on their own guidelines and their own forms.

In the Master's degree of Primary School Education, it is difficult to have previous education recognised, due to requirements for the content of the education.

Recognition of overseas education
Do you plan to take parts of your education abroad and have it recognised as part of your education at VUC? In that case, you must gain prior approval of what you want to study to ensure that this can be recognised as part of your education at VUC. Contact International Office on 2nd floor of the Berte Kanutte building - tel. 70075120 or send an e-mail to utveksling@hivolda.no. After completing a course of study abroad, you must provide us with approved documentation, such as transcript of records with a stamp and a signature.
You have to submit this to the International Office and, in addition, apply for a crediting in the usual manner, see above.
