Department of Language and Literature
The Department of Language and Literature (ISL) is responsible for teaching and research in the fields of English and Norwegian. We offer a broad and flexible range of courses, both on campus and online. These include all the courses in English and Norwegian on our teacher-education programmes, as well as those which can contribute to a half-year study, a full Year Course, higher-level specialised studies, and a BA in Language and Literature. The department is also responsible for the MA in Written Cultures and shares responsibility for the MA in Teaching and Learning. We provide, too, a large selection of continuing- and further-education courses for teachers and a Norwegian course for international students (NIS). The Department’s study programmes can be found in our study catalogue.
The department consists of around 40 members of staff and is divided into three sections: the English Section, the Section for Norwegian in Teacher Education (NLU) and the Ivar Aasen Section for Language, Literature and Culture.
Head of department: Hjalmar Eiksund. Section leaders: Kim-Daniel Vattøy (English section), Ingrid Løvik Saure (NLU), Brage Egil Herlofsen (Ivar Aasen section).
