Amir Pouyan Bashti Monfared is a documentary filmmaker with a decade of practical experience in Iran's film industry. He has received awards for his documentary and corporate films in Iran and Tokyo Docs in Japan. Amir Pouyan has a BA and MA in Dramatic Literature from the Faculty of Cinema & Theater at the University of Art in Tehran, with a second MA in Media Practices from Volda University College. Amir has previously worked as a junior producer for the Norwegian documentary production company UpNorth Film AS.

He is a Ph.D. candidate at the Norwegian University of Science & Technology (NTNU), visiting the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and a lecturer in documentary filmmaking, storytelling, and location sound recording at the Faculty of Media and Journalism (AMF) in Volda. He is also co-chairing the Television and Film Studies Division of NordMedia Conference 2025.

Ph.D. Project

In his article-based Ph.D. project entitled 'Social-issue Documentaries and Production Trends in the Contemporary Transnational Documentary Ecologies', Amir explores different questions involving issues of the production of social impact documentaries.
