ANFIG102 Figure drawing 2
Required prerequisite knowledge

Students who have equivalent knowledge from other universities, colleges or private school drawing courses can apply directly on this course (with skipping ANFIG101 and ANFIG102). Applicants must write informational/motivation letter, have a short interview and deliver portfolio with similar or equal knowledge which corresponds to ANFIG101 and ANFIG102.

Course content

Through lectures and guidance, the goal is to master observational capability, and to be able to solve advanced problems. On “Figure drawing 3”, student should learn how to apply knowledge from drawing classes by simplifying it in animation. Knowledge of fully mastered drawing skills are used in all creative educations, commercial industry, it helps when applying for exchange programs on other colleges and universities, and in searching for a position as a trainee in a studio or a job.

Learning outcome

I samsvar med det nasjonale kvalifikasjonsrammeverket har studenten følgjande læringsutbytte etter fullført emne:

Learning outcome knowledge

Through this practical drawing program, students will have:
- Mastering in drawing human body in right proportions.
- Advanced knowledge of modelling, movement, balance, gravity and composition.
- Use of perspective drawing.
- Mastering extreme perspective foreshortenings.
- Mastering shadows and light.
- Learn to differentiate characteristic features with humans.
- Resemblance on drawings with a real model.

Learning outcome skills

Practical knowledge through drawing a real model (“Learning by Doing”).
- Ability to capture ideas and visualize solutions.
- Precise drawing observations and playfully inventive line games.
- Full understanding on how anatomy visually influences body and information seen
on the surface.
- Knowledge which they can incorporate in animation.
- Develop the ability for independent, practical problem solving.
- Understanding that drawing can be informative, objective or more subjective and
illustrative.
- Artistic and analytical approach to their work.
- Modelling skills.

Learning outcome qualification

The students have practical experience with more independent work in creative process and aesthetics. They have advanced drawing abilities that will help to incorporate acquired knowledge in animation education and work including other artistic studies.

Working and learning activities

The course is organised as practical exercises by drawing a life model and theoretical part. Approach to each student is individual due to different skill levels and the ability/speed at which they are progressing. Theoretical part will be focused on anatomy drawing in perspective and foreshortening, and in lightning and shadowing. Mentor will guide students through individual problem solving tasks by explaining those topics in the practical part of
classes. Each new task has a different situation and problems where students need to show logistic and problem solving abilities. Theoretical part will also point out different figure drawing roles in specific historical moments and animation. This opens the students for creative thinking and being aware of different possibilities of solving the same task. The practical part of lectures is a direct continuation of the practice of the last phase of the drawing course. It is based on the independent work and analysis of the basic elements of art education form linear construction, linear drawing to tonal drawing. Students will show as drawing development range from flat two-dimensional, simple three-dimensional square shapes to complex divorced forms. Lectures will be held on Norwegian and English for foreign students in a form of a block hour of 45-minute x 2, 2 times per week through the whole semester.

Assessment requirements

Students are obligated to attend 80% of classes to pass the subject, which will be monitored and visible in the number of drawings they will present at the end of the semester.
