One year of social science studies or equivalent.

Course content

The aim of this course is to practice and apply knowledge and insights into theories and methods connected to the students’ studies so far. Students are to do an internship in the public or private sector, or with a non-governmental organisation (NGO). The internship can take place in Norway or abroad. During their internship, students are to write a project report. The topic of this report should be connected to to the student's tasks in the internship workplace.

The course consists of two parts:

Part 1: Internship seminar, preparing the students for the internship, and for writing the project report. The course covers topics like how to write a report, how to apply for jobs, ethics in working life, and different cultures in working life.

Part 2: Internship in the public or private sector, or with an NGO, as well as writing the internship project report.

In accordance with the National Qualifications Framework, the student will achieve the following learning outcomes after completing the course:

  • Present the outcomes of their work projects in a written report.

The student will know how to apply theoretical knowledge acquired in their studies in a practical work setting. 

Working and learning activities

This is an elective course. The course is also open for students from other study programs at HVO and for international students. The seminar is held in English. The internship report can be written in Norwegian or in English.

The course consists of two parts with specific requirements to qualify for the exam: Introductory seminar with obligatory attendance and course work in January and February. Internship of 6-8 weeks approved and supervised by the department, with internship project report.

  • Participation in seminar (obligatory attendance - at least 80 %)
  • Presentation of internship position and topic of internship report in the seminar
  • Completed internship
