MD201 (Strategic Design). The course is taugth in English and sufficient English language skills are required.

Course content

The course ”CORPORATE DESIGN PRACTISE” is a practical design course, based on assignments from either public or private organizations or companies. Customer relations, research and design (in teamwork) are the crucial elements for product and service development / innovation.

Learning outcome knowledge

Knowledge:The students will get work experience through realistic cases, based on assignments from public or private organizations and companies. They will improve their knowledge about important conditions related to design driven development and innovation processes.

Learning outcome skills

Skills:The students will be able to improve their design skills and the ability to target design solutions, by getting insights into organization / business environments with regards to working conditions, challenges, needs, constraints etc.

Learning outcome qualification

General skills:The students will be prepared for the diverse challenges in future design related job situations.  

Working and learning activities

The students will work in small teams, solving different customer assignments. Each assignment will be organized as a project. The students will receive mentoring during the semester. The group members will be given specific roles or responsibilities to ensure diverse areas of focus and active participation.Students failing to attend the first lecture without valid reason will be excluded.VUC reserves non-commercial user rights to work submitted during the course.

Assessment requirements

Several group presentations throughout the course (see timetable).

Evaluation

Grading will be done in accordance with the regulations governing studies and examinations at Volda University College.

This course has an examination in two parts:

1. A portfolio assessment consisting of

- The final presentation of each group’s work

- An individual customer report and the original design solutions connected to the project.

The portfolio assessment will be given a temporary examination grade.

2. An individual oral exam, based on the group’s final results and relevant theory.
