International Day is meant to be a meeting point for Norwegian students, international students, staff and international guests. VUC is very active when it comes to internationalization and has a good reputation abroad. This is why representatives from so many universities abroad come here to maintain and strengthen their relationship with VUC, as well as to recruit students. VUC will receive guests from big universities from Hawaii, San Diego and Sheffield, but also from smaller institutions with high quality programmes in specialized areas.

There will be a focus on internationalization in Volda the entire week, and it starts with a bang on Monday when StudiebygdA invites everyone to their breakfast meeting. The theme will be “Multiculturalism in the workspace”, and there will be a chance to listen to the experience of employers and employees, as well as students and other professionals. After the presentations the audience is invited to an interesting debate. Breakfast and coffee will be served. On Monday night there will be a Kick-Off at the Norwegian Animation Centre, with a presentation of the exhibition “100 Years of Norwegian Animation”, which just returned from Fredrikstad and Oslo. Light food and drinks will be served.

Tuesday will include international activities in the different departments, with guest lectures, workshops and presentations. On Tuesday night the locals of Volda will be challenged by international opponents in a quiz at the pub “Det Grøne Tredet”. The questions will be read out in Norwegian and English, and in keeping with tradition it is Odd Kåre Fløtre who guides us through the quiz.

Wednesday is the highlight of the week, with live music, colourful stands and tastes of food from various countries, during International Day! From 11.00 am students who are eager to see the world can visit stands and have their questions answered by students who have been on exchange, international students who are here on exchange, or representatives from our partner universities who are visiting Volda this week.  At 1.00 pm the BK cantina will be filled with exciting aromas from international cuisines when we invite everyone to a free lunch, with dishes from all over the world.

Thursday night the international students will arrange African Night in the BK cantina, where you get a chance to try traditional African cuisine and dance to African beats.
