Objectives

This research group thematizes oral skills as a fundamental skill, especially processes around the development of teaching and assessment practices in secondary schools.

The University of Volda has a special responsibility for the education of teachers. Assessment of oral skills is a topic that is under-researched both nationally and internationally. We wish to elevate the professional environment - both locally and nationally - by building knowledge and expertise together with national and international partners, all of whom are interested in teaching and assessing oral skills.

Projects

International collaboration: The research group is an associate member of the MuMo network, which involves researchers and teachers from three Nordic countries: Norway, Denmark and Sweden. The network is financed by Norplus and coordinated by UC Syd in Denmark. The MuMo network aims to strengthen and develop teaching in and including oral language through educational collaboration and oral language didactics across the Nordic countries.

    Activities:

    • 14.–15. November 2023, Network meeting, Stavanger
    • 28.–29. November 2022, Seminar post at Network meeting, Esbjerg, Danmark

Application to the Norwegian Research Council (NFR): The research group's stated goal is to apply to NFR for funds for an own research project with the working title Oracy-UP. Our collaborating institutions, OsloMet and UC Syd and the MuMo network, are important players in this application.

    Activities:

    • Application of "såkornmidlar" (2023) - AWARDED
    • Application to NFR - PLANNED 2024

Regional cooperation: Our aim is to further develop the cooperation Volda University has with the school sector. In recent years, several of the members have been active in various Dekomp project work linked to secondary schools in Møre and Romsdal, for example projects that thematize oral skills and assessment. Several research projects have grown from these projects. The results of these collaborations have been presented at research conferences and professional seminar days:
