ANFIG162 Figure Drawing 2
For english speaking exchange students: Admission for exchange students is based exclusively on portfolio assessment. All exchange students must submit a link to their online portfolio, together with the application documents. Students who have not passed Figure Drawing 1 (ANFIG161) must document corresponding experience or knowledge in figure drawing.
The aim of the figure drawing course is to train the student's observation and drawing skills. This will provide tools and a foundation for solving technical animation challenges throughout the bachelor's program. The course is intended for students who have already learned the basic principles of figure drawing. The student will gain expanded knowledge of proportions, anatomy, movement, and composition, and learn to handle more complex forms. The student will also learn to recognize proportional relationships within a limited timeframe, and more generally, they will gain a deeper understanding of the possibilities of drawing as an artistic expression. The main goal of the course is for the student to maintain and further develop the skills acquired in Figure Drawing 1. The course consists of lectures and practical exercises with guidance.
In accordance with the national qualifications framework, the student will have the following learning outcomes after completing the course:
The student will have
- expanded knowledge of how to draw a human body in correct proportions
- expanded knowledge of movement, balance and composition
- expanded knowledge of the structure and muscles of the human body
- an understanding of how anatomy and movement affect the appearance of the body
- expanded knowledge of linear construction
- expanded knowledge of how one can use drawing as a medium of expression and communication
The student will
- have further developed skills in drawing from a live model
- be able to translate and interpret visual experiences in an expressive manner
The student will
- have improved their drawing skills and be able to see new possibilities in drawing
- be able to incorporate their knowledge of drawing into their animation work and further studies
The course builds on Figure Drawing 1 and emphasizes gesture drawing as a foundation for animation. The course is organized around a theoretical component and practical exercises where students draw from a life model. A teacher will guide the student in their individual exercises, including suggesting drawing techniques that suit each student.
The student will also receive small homework assignments.
Lectures will be held in Norwegian, and in English for international students.
At the end of the semester, the student, together with the supervisor, will select 5 major drawing assignments to be submitted for the portfolio exam.
Deliver an evaluation of the course. This evaluation will be conducted anonymously.
Grading will be done in accordance with the Regulations governing studies and examinations at Volda University College, § 5-11.
The course will be evaluated in accordance with Volda University College’s quality assurance system.
Students are responsible to provide the following basic equipment: charcoal, kneaded eraser and fixative. Additionally, they will need ink, watercolour, or some other desired medium. Other necessary equipment is provided by the school.
