ANI113 Animation 3: 3D animation; stop-motion and CGI
Students shall, through practical exercises, explore 3-dimensional object animation (“stop-motion”) with a focus on puppet animation. Students will also be provided an introduction to functional puppet making and basic set building and lighting.
The course will provide an introduction to 3-dimensional computerized animation, various terms and concepts within this technique, and organization of animation work with relevant software.
In accordance to the National Qualifications Framework the student will achieve the following learning outcomes after completing the course:
• the complete process of making a puppet-animated film, both analogue and digital
• digital software for 3-dimentional computerised animation
• lighting of puppet-animated films
• be able to make and animate a puppet
• be able to build and light basic sets for puppet animated films
• be able to animate digital characters in Maya (software)
• be able to think creatively and improvise
• be able to communicate audio-visual texts
Group work and workshops. Individual work with tutoring.
Students must produce a functional puppet for animated films.
Grading will be done in accordance with the Regulations governing admission, studies and examinations at Volda University College.
The course will be evaluated in accordance with the University College’s routines for quality assurance.
