Year Course in English or equivalent (60 credits) or 45 credits English + 15 credits HUM 101. Students with only 45  credits English must have 30 credits within the discipline in which they want to take a specialisation course (ENG 141 and ENG 143 for a specialisation course in laguage; ENG 142 and ENG 144 for a specialisation course in literature/culture/society).

The study programme builds on the broad foundation given in the Year Course and offers specialisation in one or more limited areas within English studies. A selection of courses on linguistic and literary topics is offered.The programme can be incorporated into a variety of bachelor degrees and can serve as a qualification for master studies at universities and university colleges. The programme also provides relevant competence for the teaching of English in schools, if combined with a teacher training programme or PPU (practical pedagogical training). From 2017, admission to the PPU-programme will require a masters degree including a school subject.

In accordance with the national qualification framework, the student has reached the following learning outcomes after completing the programme:

After completing the programme, the student possesses knowledge about

- one or two selected fields within English language and/or literature

- central theories and issues within the field.

Learning outcome skills

After completing the programme, the student is able to

- analyse and interpret linguistic and/or literary expressions in a critical way

- give an academic, oral presentation on her/his topic(s) within the field of study

- write independent, academic texts in English

- discuss theoretical approaches to language and/or literature

Learning outcome qualification

After completing the programme, the student is able to

  • develop their knowledge of a specific field in English studies 
  •  improve their ability to work independently
Content structure

The programme consists of two 15-credit 200-level courses. These can be taught courses in language (ENG201/200) and literature (ENG203/205), or one taught course combined with a bachelor paper (ENG211/213). The bachelor programmes require a bachelor paper.One taught course will be offered each term: language courses in the autumn and literary courses in the spring. During the academic year 2015-2016 two courses will run: ENG201 Translation: theory and practice in the autumn term (2015), and ENG205 Modern American conservatism in politics and literature in the spring term (2016).The bachelor paper builds on a 200-level course within the same discipline. ENG 211/213 may be taken in parallel with the taught course it builds on, or later.The specific courses offered may be subject to change.

Året etter planlegg vi å tilby ENG201 Omsettjing: teori og praksis (hausten 2019), og ENG206 Britisk og Amerikansk Komedie (våren 2020)

Bacheloroppgåveemna (ENG211 og ENG213) går alle semester.
